Nikki Sorich has painted from a young age. She first tasted success in her teens, winning the senior prize for art at secondary school for three years running. From her earliest works, she has focused on people and she enjoys exploring the sense of drama that is inherent in life.

Sorich experimented with many different styles before finding her artistic focal point. “I caught a glimpse of two people on the sidewalk leaning into each other to kiss, in an awkward first date way, and an idea sparked to life in my mind! I rushed home to paint The Kiss, and since that moment paintings and ideas have been pouring out”

In the past year, Sorich’s signature style has blossomed. Although she has completed a number of works in acrylic her preferred medium is oil on board. She has developed an innovative process, painting on to plaster that has been textured and scoured. The use of this tortured surface gives the finished work a magnificent three dimensional impact.

A recurring theme in Sorich’s work is the person captured at a memorable moment in time: a relationship flash point, running away to Africa or a day at the races.

Sorich has been selected as the artist for the labels of the new wine range "Fallen Angel Wines", from Stonyridge Vineyard, Waiheke Island. This new wine is available at restaurants and cafe's around the country and distributed nationwide through Glengarry Hancocks. It is also set to be distributed Internationally to countries such as Austrailia, China, Britain, New York and Russia. Artist Statement

Life is full of intense moments: those points when we are filled with joy or regret. They are the moments that make our lives worthwhile. I feel the same way about art.

Art is one of the universal languages, speaking of things that are difficult or simply inexpressible in words. New inspirations are constantly flowing through me (often at 2am!) and at times, it is difficult for the brush strokes to keep up with my enthusiasm.

Painting has always been my true passion in life and I believe that if you have a passion for something that there are no limits or boundaries for what you can achieve.

I am enjoying this journey of discovery. Thank you for sharing it with me.
